Trial of additional resources from Web of Science

Thomson Reuters, the people  who  provide us with Web of Science are switching on some additional resources in Web of Knowledge until August 31st – and these  include Book Citation Index®Conference Proceedings Citation Index and Current Contents Connect®. 

They say “Web of Knowledge provides a single destination to access the most reliable, integrated, multidisciplinary research – approximately 100M records of all types. Quality, curated content delivered alongside information on emerging trends, subject specific content and analysis tools make it easy for students, researchers and faculty to pinpoint the most relevant research to inform their work.”

Trial of ARTstor – valid until Friday, April 5, 2013

ArtstorWe have taken out a trial to  ARTstor Digital Library –  a nonprofit resource that provides over 1.5 million digital images in the arts, architecture, humanities, and sciences with an accessible suite of software tools for teaching and research.

To access the trial (which just for the trial is on-campus only) go to www.artstor.org and click on the link to “Enter the ARTstor digital library.”

Trial of Classical Scores Library to mark Marc Yeats premiere on January 8th

Classical Scores Library

Marc Yeats has just become composer-in-residence for the Thumb Ensemble, a contemporary music ensemble from the UK.

Their next performance is Jan 8th at Birmingham Conservatoire at Birmingham City University, with the premier of Marc’s newest pieces called Black Bile, composed in 2012.

In connection with Alexander Street Press, (with whom we already have a  subscription to Classical Music Library) we have set up a trial to their sister product Classical Scores Library (active until February 8th. For off-campus access, click here.) The score of Marc’ s piece can be viewed here to help assess a score before and after a premiere performance.

Trial of UKPressOnline

We have set up a month’s trial to UKPressOnline to evaluate this product.

UKPressOnline is a newspaper archive that features the complete as-published content of the Daily Mirror, the Daily and Sunday Express, The Star and the Star on Sunday. It is available in single titles or in packages – trial access will allow us to look at all titles, and is on-campus only, though if we purchased this it can be accessed from off-campus as well.

Recently added new content includes “The Watchman and Wesleyan Advertiser”, the precursor of the Methodist Recorder, launched in the immediate aftermath of the Tolpuddle Martyrs. The archive, from the first issue in 1835 to the last in 1884, is virtually complete.
