Ovid have told us that the problem we first noticed in Maternity and Infant Care (logging in via Athens with Internet Explorer) has been resolved.

Check out the Independent Local Radio (BUVFC) from 1973 to 1996 - which has over 29,500 radio recordings from 1973 to 1996.

Follow such events as the 1984 Miners Strike & listen to voices across the political divide: from a ‘vox pop’ interview on Arthur Scargill’s arrest at Orgeave, May 1984, to the then Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher (defending police action, and her son’s involvement in financial deals in Oman).

BUVFC have also produced a teaching and learning case study of how this archive could be used – they say “the archive is important both in terms of content (especially news and current affairs coverage of political, economic, social and cultural events and developments) and for also for production techniques employed (including interviews, vox pops, phone-ins, reportage and rolling news)”.

 Since Dialog restored the Education database for us – the links to our content e.g. Swetswise journals – on British Education Index don’t appear to be working.

We have raised this with our Account Manager at Dialog . In the meantime, if you are doing a search on Dialog – if you make a note of your article references, you can use our AtoZ of Electronic Journals to check for a journal title and holdings to see if we have the fulltext available electronically.

It will soon be easier to search across sources on Nexis – our global news service – as they are bringing out a new “All Search Forms” button. Also included is an a new Excel download feature.

Athens is now working again as it has been down between 16:02 yesterday and 09:07 this morning, and between 12:08 and 15.30 today. Our CICT colleagues have resolved the problem for us, though we are still looking into why this happened.

Elsevier tell us that their ScienceDirect  journal service will be unavailable due to scheduled maintenance for approximately 9 hours from 1:00AM GMT Sunday, 1 November to 10:00AM GMT .

We had a problem this morning with the Dialog Education databases:  BEI,ERIC and Australian Education Index just giving a username and password screen – we have talked to the folks at Dialog and they have resolved this for us so you should now be able to login via the normal routes.

We have just set up access to Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Reports 1974 – 1996 which is an amazing historical record of transcripts as used by the U.S. Government 1974 – 1996 - ’open source intelligence’  or what the spooks used to call OSINT. See what you can dig up.
